By Richard Monk Unlike many current religions, the ancient Greeks invoked numerous deities for different subjects and needs. Athena, the Greek deity, served in the role of war queen similar to Ares. Among the many deity, deity-like and mythical figures of ancient Greece, males were not the only ones that were revered and seen as important. Often, deities were worshiped even more furiously, because their powers were seen to gift followers with much needed power and talents. One of the most highly regarded and famous of these was Athena, the Greek deity of wisdom, war, weaving and crafts. Athena’s father was Zeus, the king of all the deities, and it is said that she sprang fully formed and completely armed from his forehead. Her mother was said to be Metis, the deity of wisdom and cunning, whom Zeus slept with and then regretted it, fearing that a child begotten of Metis would grow to be more powerful than he was. So he transformed Metis into fly and swallowed her, but it was too late; she was pregnant and began creating a helmet and robe for her daughter while she was inside Zeus. The hammering Metis caused while making the helmet disturbed Zeus, so he had Prometheus cleave his head in two with an axe to stop it, and Athena sprang out. Athena, the Greek deity, probably came from a deity already worshiped in the area of Greece before they arrived. Her name may mean the Lady of Athens or possibly mother. Most often she is described with the epithet bright eyed, and in earlier times Athena may have been a bird deity associated with the owl. Many other names were used in conjunction with Athena, some to connote her artistic abilities, others to show her virginity. Athena is usually pictured in full armor, holding a spear, and she is also seen with an owl perched on her shoulder. Her face is depicted as having a long smooth neck, a strong profile, with a long nose and features. She is seen as being extremely beautiful, but aloof. Athena also plays a major role in many other myths involving major and minor deities and mythical creatures; one of the most known is the story in which she changes a weaver Arachne, into a spider. As Greek religious figures go, Athena is definitely seen as one of the most important and powerful. By Jay McKee I want to share with you a story. This story happens everywhere and everyday in America . If you grasp the simple lesson from it, you can make more money each month without working harder or spending more. I just bought a printer. My trusted ink jet printer finally gave up and sputtered to an untimely demise. Poor thing. You see, I needed a printer fast, so I went to a local, well-known large electronics store here in San Jose. It was afternoon time, so not too busy. I clearly remember walking by 3 or 4 groups of well dressed salesman standing together chatting. Too Many Choices…. When I arrived at the printer aisle, I was surprised at the huge number of choices. Laser-jets, ink jets, with scanner, with fax, 5000 page cycle (whatever that means)I like to think of myself as a high tech guy but I honestly didnt know how to estimate value for these printers. Now mind you, I had a figure in my head I was willing to spend. That number was at about a max of $350 dollars. I was willing to walk out the door that very day with a $350 printer…if I only was given a reason to buy a $350 printer and told why I needed to pay the higher price. Anyone There? I was there a long time checking out all the various brands of printers. During that time, not a single salesman asked me if I needed any help. Here I ama guy, standing there, credit card in hand, obviously only concerned with printers, and not even a single salesman stopped to help me. I like to figure things out anyways, so I decided to go ahead and check out all the printer features. Slowly but surely I noticed the $99 and $129 started to look pretty good. They were not quite as fast, but seemed to do almost everything the $350 dollar printers could do. But really, I dont know because nobody was there to explain them to me. Time To Give In So I finally decided on a $129 dollar printer. I had to look for a salesman, and tell him I made my choice. The salesman got very excited, went to the back and came out with my new printer. He seemed giddy he was able to get a commission on the $129 printer. They Could Have Gotten So Much More But the joke was on the salesman and the electronics store. You see, when I walked in, I was totally committed to paying a premium for a relatively expensive printer. If someone had been there to explain why the $350 printer was worth more than the $129 one, the salesman would have gotten a $35 dollar commission instead of a $12 dollar one, and the store would have made a much larger profit. Give Your Customer A Reason Why Think about it. If that salesman had taken 10 minutes to give me the information I needed and give me a reason whythen the store and the salesman would have been much better off and I would certainly not have been unhappy. In fact, I still dont know if my decision was the best one I could have made, but I had to make a decision. Now, I know this isn’t the most earth shattering story…but sometimes simple everyday stories can contain powerful elements of truth. Educate Your Customer So the lesson to be learned is this: if you own a small business, take the time to train your staff to freely give information to customers. The key rule can be stated: Educate your customer. Do this yourself if you are the one selling. And dont just say Can I help you?. Be more specific. Offer to explain why more expensive models cost more. Explain that they are made in the US and raw materials come from New Zealand (or wherever) and that youve never seen a return come in on that item because of its durability. Explain that the widget works faster, saving your customer 20 minutes a day. Explain that the more expensive item has more features so the customer will never have to come back and upgrade. Small Adjustments Can Give You Big Gains If you incorporate this form of sales into your daily business operation, youll see your monthly income rise dramatically. Employee salaries are the same whether a sale is made or not. Training can be done in a day or two — a very small investment. So let’s calculate. Lets say you sell an inexpensive version of a widget as well as a more expensive version. If you just sell one more of the more expensive version per day, and if the difference in price is $50, then over a month you could add $50×6x4 = $1200 extra per month to your bottom line. Can you see how easy this can be to implement? The good news is it will hardly cost you much to implement this idea. Just some training and a little follow through. By Kimberly Jackson My present is my past-My future is my NOW! Although it hasn’t manifested in the natural realm, I am to concentrate on it, for this is the will of God for me. I show my absolute acceptance and belief in the vision by preparing aforehand for what I see, knowing each day brings me a step closer to my future-my destiny-my now. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. Meaning your future-your now has already taken place in the spirit realm and will work its way into the natural in God’s appointed time. It is finished. Your future-your now originated out of heaven as God’s thought for you-your purpose, His plan and will for your life. God proclaims in Jeremiah 29:11, for I know my thoughts I think toward you…the vision for your life. The psalmist David proclaims in Psalm 40:7, “In the volume of the book it is written of me. My accomplishments, events of my life, my ministry, lives I’m to impact, my itinerary, et cetera, are already planned and orchestrated by the Creator himself. Everything about you is written in the book. And God will reveal to you piece by piece the revelation of who you are-His purpose and will for your life. Knowing what’s to come. I skip the thought of tomorrow to meditate on my future. That’s where my focus should be. Prepare for what I see-the revelation of who I am and where God is taking me, knowing that when I wake up the next day, I’m just a step closer to it. It’s staring me in the face. What you encounter in your present is actually setting you up for your future. Every trial, every obstacle, every situation and circumstance is stirring you in the path of change, of destiny. God is doing it on purpose so that men may marvel at His glory upon your life and in your ministry. He’s doing it in such a way that no man can glory off the wondrous works in your life wrought by His hands. What He does show us is to prepare us-get us ready for what we see. In the meantime, stay focused and well aware that situations and circumstances will arise. They are a normal part of everyday living. God uses our trials and troubles to help strengthen and develop us for the vision. Hell is aware that your NOW is about to manifest and is working around the clock to distract you and take you off course. But you must keep your eyes on the prize. Be rested assured that if it’s hard to believe, then it’s from God. If you feel like you’re crazy after seeing it, then believe me, it’s a vision from God. If you entertain the thought that you may be crazy then you open the door for doubt to play on your mind, whispering to you, “Yes, you’ve lost your mind, go ahead and admit yourself into the ward.” But thank God for revealing Himself in the Word, saying that it is impossible for Him to lie. God is a God of miracles. You may question, how can you recognize it as a vision from God? First of all, He’ll plant it so deep into your spirit that it won’t go away and you can’t say no. It’ll weigh heavily on your spirit. Secondly, God does not think small. He is a big God and He thinks big. Look at creation. Creation was not a small vision and neither was the vision-assignment given to Adam and Eve. When He looks at you, He’s thinking big. He may start you out small, but believe it or not, that’s not your destiny. That’s your training ground to prepare you for the vision He has for your life. He has to trust you in the little things before moving you into the big. Thirdly, the vision God has for your life-your purpose will make you notable. Lastly, the vision for your life will make you memorable. Generations will call you blessed. Blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told of her from the Lord. Luke 1:35 God shows you the vision for your life, so you can prepare for it. God will keep you a step ahead, and will not send you into your future unprepared. He will prepare you for that promotion, new husband, wealth, calling, or whatever He has planned for your life. He will prepare you for whatever he’s revealed to you about your future-your now. Destiny awaits and will not embrace you until you’re ready. So prepare yourself. Stay in the presence of God. Everything about your future is set. Be wise like the ants. The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer. Proverbs 30:25 Provides her meat in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. Proverbs 6:8 A vision is something you must prepare for. Take notes from the ant who demonstrates wisdom. We are urged to consider her ways. The ant has no guide, meaning, she knows who she is and where she’s going. She knows the change of season and makes provision ahead of time. We must prepare for the vision of our life knowing what’s coming and the changes it will bring. The ant has foresight. She knows what’s ahead and starts preparing her meat in the summer. I am anticipating this other chapter in my life. You, my friend have insight by revelation of God concerning the vision for your life. You know your season is coming. Therefore, be like the wise ant, prepare and plan for it. Engage yourself in those things pertaining to your future. Increase your knowledge into those things pertaining to the vision for your life by engaging in reading, or taking classes relevant to where God is taking you. Be ever so careful as to who you keep company with, your conversation, what you watch on TV, places you go and who you listen too. If your future is your now that has not yet manifested, then you need to concentrate on it. For example, if God’s vision for you is wealth and He told you that you are a billionaire, then begin thinking like a billionaire. If you don’t know how to think like one, then go talk to one and learn from him/her. Study them. Attend conferences, seminars, et cetera that pertains to success and money. Read about some of the biblical greats who exhibited great wealth in their life such as: King Solomon (I Kings 10:14-29), Abraham (Genesis 13:2) Isaac (Genesis 26:12-14) and Jacob (Genesis 30:43; 32:5). Read whatever will increase your knowledge in that area. If God’s vision for your life is to stand in a five fold ministry office, then educate yourself on that particular office and the gifts that accompany them. Study biblical examples of gospel greats who operated in that office. My favorite is the Apostle Paul. Paul set the example of how we are to operate in the kingdom. Observe today’s role models. Study to show yourself approved. Read, Read, Read. The book of Acts is a good place to start. Take ministerial classes if God leads you to do so. Kenneth Hagin, Sr. is an authoritative on ministry gifting and callings and has authored several books that would be beneficial tools of training. Stay in the presence of God in fasting and prayer so your ears will be fine tuned to the voice of God. It is His Holy Spirit who will teach, train, and equip you with everything you need to operate in your calling. If God’s vision for your life is a new husband, again, educate yourself. Study marriage, family and relationships. Read books on the subject. See what God has to say about it in His word. Know that His standards and precepts hold precedence over the world’s perspective in those areas. Ladies, if you can’t cook go buy a cookbook. Don’t fish for a husband; God has already netted him for you. You just need to be patient and use your time of waiting to work on yourself. Conduct yourself accordingly because nine times out of ten he is watching you. And ladies, if you know who he is, be still, let him come to you and not you to him. You’re out of order if you approach him. Your desire should be for a man that has an ear for the voice of God. How you can tell if he’s a man that can hear from God is when he approaches you with the revelation, it will be confirming in your spirit. That’s a sign unto you that he whom God has ordained to be the head actually has a relationship with God. In the meantime focus on what God called you to do. Delight yourself in Him and He will give you the desires of your heart. God will bring him to you. If God said you were going to be a successful entrepreneur. Think like one. Research the Internet on entrepreneurship topics. Attend community seminars and workshops that deal with the subject. Research your business idea. Get a magazine subscription on business and entrepreneurship. Take advantage of any classes your church or community may offer on starting your own business. Read books on successful CEOs, (e. g. Donald Trump, Bill Gates, even Oprah) most of them share their story and experiences. Attend business expos, seminars, conferences, et cetera, pertaining to business and entrepreneurship. Hopefully this will give you a good idea of what I mean by preparing yourself for the vision. Yes, another chapter in your life is about to unfold. Prepare yourselfStudyStay focusedThe closer I get to it, the harder it is to stay focused. God reminds me to concentrate on where He is taking me. Don’t look to the left, or to the right. Look straight ahead because that’s where God is at. To my left and right were financial struggles, irritating circumstances, health challenges, and family issues. Such things required the peace of God and trust in His word. Don’t look at your present because it will throw you off. Put your trust in God. He is in control of everything that occurs in your life. Live everyday keeping in mind that nothing shall separate you from God, whether its tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, peril, or sword, you will remain steadfast in Him. Be persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come. Height, nor depth, nor any creature, shall be able to separate us from God. Keeping that in mind, you must hang in there, knowing that all the promises of God in Christ are yea and Amen. So you’re irritated, frustrated and tired of waiting. You feel like just plain giving up and throwing in the towel. These are just sure signs that you’re at the brink of a breakthrough. The Promise is staring you in the face. It’s tapping you on the shoulder. Trade any feelings of irritation, frustration, impatience, et cetera for praise, worship, and celebration unto God. Remember that God is not a man that He should lie, nor the Son of man that He should repent. The vision for your life-your future is already set and God is not changing His mind about you. There’s a time and season for everything under the sun and your season is yet to come. Trust Him and ask Him for strength to bear all that you need to bear to get there. You may be full of questions like the prophet Habbakkuk. I will give you the same response God gave him in saying that the vision is yet for an appointed time. God makes known the unknown as to prepare you. Redirect your focus into your future and be well on your way to preparing for the vision He has for your life. Knock, knock. Who’s there? Destination Destination who? Destination Destiny, My Child. Be ye ready for you know neither the day, nor hour your season cometh. You may sense it, you can feel it, but you never know. However, it is written in the volume of the book of God’s heart. To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. There is a divinely appointed time for you to fulfill all that God has predestined for you before you were even formed in your mother’s womb. God has determined beforehand your destiny, your future, according to the good pleasure of His will to show forth His glory in you. Brown It’s unfortunate to see so many Christian people finding themselves living from paycheck to paycheck with unpaid bills lying around, bald tires on their cars, and zeros in their savings accounts. Not to mention their health and relationship problems. These things ought not be. Life happens to us all, and at some point in time we all experience a little displeasure now and then. But we should not accept such undesirable circumstances to continue in our lives. Particularly, as a child of God, we are to live in abundance and prosperity. John 10:10 tells us that Jesus died that we may have life and have life abundantly. The devil wants us to settle for the crumbs that fall from the table. Do not accept what the enemy wants for you! Jesus said in Luke 10:19, “You have been given power and authority over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means harm you.” As Christians, we are children of the Most High God, set apart and made holy by the blood of the Lamb and “Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Our attitude should be, “I am a king’s kid and I deserve the best! I am born again, adopted into the family of God, and joint-heirs with Christ. By Dr John Anne A single black mark on the face could accentuate the beauty of the face, but imagine what would happen when several black marks appear on the face all at once. This is what happens in blackheads. Blackheads are actually the follicles which have expanded beyond their limits. That is why they are also known as open comedos. The main reason for their existence is excessive secretion by the sweat (sebaceous) glands. If you have blackheads, it could be because you did not pay much attention to facial attention earlier. Blackheads are totally curable. In Ayurveda, there are several remedies by which these blackheads can be totally eliminated. Ayurveda describes two types of blackheads the darker ones called nyachcha and the lighter ones called vyanga. Both nyachcha and vyanga can be cured and further outbreaks of these can be prevented by Ayurvedic treatments. (1) Useful Herbs in the Treatment of Blackheads Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) Cinnamon powder when applied on the face shows effective results in blackheads treatment. Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) and Turmeric (Curcuma longa) A mixture of coriander powder taken in a teaspoon with a pinch of turmeric powder is good in reducing blackheads. The blackheads would disappear after a few nights. Sandalwood (Santalum album) Sandalwood paste has a very cooling effect on the face. It is effective in the removal of both pimples and blackheads. Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) The tomato is a rich source of vitamin C. When it is applied to the area with blackheads on it, it makes the area suppler. This makes the removal of blackheads easier. (2) Dietary Treatments for Blackheads Blackheads are produced due to inconsistencies in the circulatory system of the body. The blood is impure, and that is why facial problems such as pimples and blackheads occur. In order to correct the maladies with blood, a person should drink a lot of water. Drinking excessive water will lead to excessive urination; but this is a way of purifying the blood. Keep your diet rich in vitamin C foods. Eat Indian gooseberry (amalaki) a lot. Supplement your diet with vitamin C rich foods such as oranges, strawberries, lemons, etc. Digestion is an important key in keeping blackheads and pimples away. The food must be easy to digest. A good portion of the diet must be made of green vegetables and fruits. Protein-rich foods like milk, eggs, white meats and lentils must also be included. Fatty foods make the sebaceous glands work harder. Hence they should be avoided. (3) Ayurvedic Treatments for Blackheads One of the simplest Ayurvedic treatments for the problem of blackheads is to apply steam on the face. Steaming improves the circulation of blood in the facial region and helps the blackheads disappear. Abhyanga is also used for the treatment of blackheads. Abhyanga is a method of making oil massage on the face. This must be done every morning before the bath. This will not only remove the blackheads, but it will also make the face suppler and shinier. Ayurvedic doctors will strongly suggest the disuse of all cosmetic products on the face when a person has blackheads. If cosmetics are used, the Ayurvedic remedies may not work. Instead, efforts must be made to keep the skin fresh with a healthy diet and the mind free from stresses and tensions. Yoga is recommended to keep the mind devoid of worries. (4) Home Medications One simple treatment is to mix some camphor, almonds, sandalwood in rose water. 1 tola of sandalwood is first crushed with 2 tolas of almonds. Then 2 rattis of camphor extract are added to the mixture, and this is finally dissolved in 30 tolas of rosewater. Applying 1 tola of this paste of the face every morning will provide the necessary benefits. The Indian plum or jamuna is also a very beneficial remedy. Its seeds must be exuded in water till all the extract is obtained in the solution. This paste is to be applied on the face. This is one of the fastest ways to get relief from pimples and blackheads. Chiraunji (Buchanania latifolia) must be ground to a very fine consistency with yellow split lentils (masoor ki daal) and yellow mustard. Warm this mixture every morning and apply it on the face. Let it remain overnight. Each successive morning you will find some reduction in the severity of the blackheads. Prepare a mixture of lemon, honey and yoghurt. Add salt in it. The grainy salt will make a scrub out of the mixture. Scrub this on the face for five minutes everyday. This will remove the blackheads. A simple ice pack treatment on the face can also show results. This will help to contract the pores. Cucumber slices must be put on the face. Alternatively, face packs with cucumber as the major ingredient can also be used on the face. By Stephen Bucaro Bad things happen to good people. Have you lost your job or are facing bankruptcy? Has a cherished relationship ended or you have gone through a divorce? Maybe you received diagnosis of a serious health problem. Or maybe you are mourning the loss of a loved one. Unfortunately, these painful events are part of life. If you have to endure such a tragedy, maybe you can find solace in your friends and in your faith. There is no way to completely avoid the pain of a tragic event, but I offer you a way to work through the pain. If a friend or loved one is grieving, you can pass this message on to them. Your should deal with the grief in three phases. You should carry on each phase for exactly 21 days before moving on to the next phase. Why 21 days? Because studies have shown that if an individual does the same thing for 21 consecutive days, it becomes a habit. That is the amount of time required to make a permanent life change. Phase 1: Don’t think about the event that is causing your grief. You may be forced to think about it in some way in order to take care of business related to the event. But otherwise don’t think about it for the first 21 days. If the event comes to mind, think to yourself “I don’t want to think about this right now”, and dismiss the thought from your mind. Every time the tragic event enters your mind, think “I don’t want to think about this right now”, and force yourself to think about something else. Usually friends and family will not be a problem because they will avoid bringing up the subject. For the first 21 days, keep pushing thoughts of the event out of your mind. Eventually you will need to mourn, it’s unavoidable. In Phase 2, you should think of nothing but the tragic event. How can this help? Even though you forcefully prevented the event from entering your conscious thoughts for the first 21 days, your subconscious mind was grieving. Now you need to deal with it on a conscious level. You will be able to grieve with less pain now because your subconscious mind has already dealt with it. You can’t put the tragedy behind you unless you deal with it on a conscious level. For the next 21 days, force yourself to focus on the tragic event. If the tragedy is a broken relationship, think about the life you could have had if things worked out the way you dreamed. If the tragedy is the death of a loved one, think about the moments of your lives together. Focus entirely on how much that individual meant to you. Phase 3: It’s time to move forward. For the next 21 days, think only of your future life and changes you will need to make. Plan your new life. What changes do you need to make to carry on under your new circumstances? Unfortunately, painful events are part of life. Bad things happen, but life moves on. My plan doesn’t let you totally avoid the grief of a tragedy, and not letting yourself grieve would not be healthy anyway. I promise you, no matter what the loss, in the end, the human spirit will always survive.
